Uasin Gishu is committed to increase support to sports and talent development.
According to deputy governor Daniel Chemno who spoke at Eldoret International Airport when he led a top government delegation from Uasin Gishu and Nandi Counties in receiving a contingent of medal winners from the just concluded Tokyo Olympics.
The team led by Sugoi- born Marathon Gold medallist Peris Jepchirchir, Amos Kipruto (silver) amongst others, made a lap of honour into Eldoret town. They were then hosted for a courtesy call at the county headquarters.
“Governor Mandago places a lot of emphasis in creating the right environment for development of talent. We host Eldoret International Marathon to conserve the environment for our athletes to train as well as identify talents to be nurtured” , Chemno said.
He also added that completion of Chagaiya High Altitude training camp and 64 stadium will provide critical infrastructure for sports. He also urged the national Government to fast track the completion of the Kipchoge Stadium.
Nandi county Deputy Governor, Dr Yulita Cheruiyot expressed her pride in the joint efforts between the two counties in promoting athletics.
Finance CECM CPA Julius Ruto, speaking on behalf of CECs present from both counties thanked the athletes for bringing joy and pride to the region.
Also present during the fete were Tindiret MP Julius Meli, CECs Jacob Tanui (Trade, Nandi) Elly Kurgat (sports, Nandi) amongst others. Who joined other leaders in lauding the achievement that team Kenya got in Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) pride itself as the bedrock of athletics in the country. Most of the 10 medals got in this year’s Olympic.
