Busia governor H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma on Friday promised the people of Busia that his government is working on reducing the wage bill and focusing on development.

After a cabinet meeting in his office, the governor noted that his leadership has gone through the strategic proposal on what is to be done to mitigate reducing the wage bill and cutting down any wasteful measures.

“We are looking at how efficiently we can continue to offer services to the public at the minimum cost possible. We have gone through our strategic proposals on what we need to do to mitigate reducing the wage bill and cutting down on any other wasteful measure,” said Dr. Otuoma.

According to him the rejection of the finance bill by President William Ruto, the money coming to the counties will be affected, a move he said will have an impact on what the county receives yearly, hence cutting down the wage bill to meet the constitutional requirement of less than 35 percent of the money the counties receive from the National government yearly.

“A lot of money is being spent to care for the county staff in the form of salaries which affects development but we have agreed as cabinet on what we need to do to reduce what we spend on salaries and increase what we spend on development,” said the governor.

The governor promised to listen to the young people who are demanding accountability from the elected adding that as leaders they are accountable to the proposals youths are raising.
“As county government, we are ready to listen and act to the proposals youths raise. We will continue listening and acting on what they are proposing,” clarified the governor.

The governor was accompanied by his deputy H.E Arthur Odera, County Secretary SC Oscar Juma, Public Service Management CECM Ms. Pamela Awuori, and Majority leader Busia County assembly Mr. Josephat Wandera among other executive members.
