We’ll brand Trans Nzoia as a Tourism destination; stakeholders
Stakeholders in the Tourism Sector have pledged to unite and brand Trans Nzoia County as a tourism destination through promotion of its rich cultural heritage and marketing of its historical sites and biodiversities.
Led by the Tourism CECM Channelle Kittoney, the nature lovers emphasised on the need to conserve the county’s biodiversities which form the touristic attractions that also earn revenue to the government.
Ms Kittoney noted that tourism was not only about attracting visitors but also creating sustainable livelihoods for the people adding that it needs concerted efforts and commitments from all stakeholders to realise this.
Her sentiments were echoed by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Senior Assistant Director for the Western Conservation Circuit Bakari Mungumi Chonge who also advocated for promotion of the local cultures as a boost for the sector.
Trans Nzoia Tourism Association Chairlady Naomi Karani noted that the county has great potential in tourism and needs to be more highlighted so as to attract more tourists and in turn benefit from the revenues they generate.
The tourism stakeholders were speaking on Wednesday at the Mt. Elgon National Park during the County’s marking of World Tourism Day, graced by Ms Kittoney and whose theme was, “Tourism and Green Investments.
The auspicious event was also attended by the Tourism Chief Officer Julia Wachwenge, the County Attorney Charles Wabwoba, Senior Tourism Officer Catherine Kerubo among other county officials.
