Wezesha Mama, Inua Jamii Program Launched to Empower Women Entrepreneurs in Trans Nzoia County
A major initiative to empower women entrepreneurs in Trans Nzoia County was launched on Monday at Saboti Centre. The “Wezesha Mama, Inua Jamii” program, led by Trans Nzoia County Woman Representative Hon. Lillian Siyoi Chebet, aims to enhance women’s economic participation by providing essential tools, skills, and resources to women engaged in micro and small enterprises (MSEs).
During the launch event, a variety of items were distributed to the beneficiaries, including sewing machines, vehicle diagnostic kits, electrical tool kits, reflector jackets, aprons, and umbrellas for small traders. These tools were carefully selected to support women in different sectors, ranging from tailoring to mechanical services, by equipping them with the resources needed to improve their productivity and expand their businesses.
Hon. Chebet, in her address to the gathering, highlighted the importance of empowering women as drivers of economic growth. “This program is not just about providing resources; it is a commitment to uplifting women and ensuring that they have what they need to succeed in business. When we empower women, we empower entire communities,” said Chebet.
The launch was also attended by 21 women national government representatives, alongside Roy Sasaka Telewa, the CEO of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF). Telewa emphasized the government’s ongoing support for women entrepreneurs as a key element of Kenya’s broader development agenda. “Empowering women is central to achieving gender equality and fostering economic growth across the country,” he remarked.
The “Wezesha Mama, Inua Jamii” program is part of a national strategy to increase women’s access to financial resources, enhance their participation in the workforce, and promote gender equality in entrepreneurship. The tools distributed will assist women in Trans Nzoia County in scaling their businesses, improving job creation, and increasing income generation opportunities.
Local leaders and women entrepreneurs expressed gratitude for the support, with many beneficiaries excited about the potential to expand their businesses. “These tools will significantly enhance our productivity and help us grow our businesses,” one recipient shared, highlighting the practical impact of the program.
The launch marks a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to ensure women have equal access to economic opportunities. By providing women with the necessary resources and support, the program aims to create a more inclusive and equitable economic landscape in Trans Nzoia County and beyond.
