Women in Uasin Gishu Apologise to Raila Odinga After His Chopper Was Stoned

Women in Uasin Gishu have asked for forgiveness from the opposition leader Raila Odinga after his chopper was stoned in Kabenes, Soy Constituency.

Raila Odinga’s chopper was attacked during mzee Jackson Kibor’s burial.

Women-led by Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Rift Valley chair Ann Kibet condemned the incident terming it as unfortunate and ill-intended.

“On behalf of women and people of Uasin Gishu, we want to ask for forgiveness from the former primes minister Raila Odinga after his chopper was attacked. The incident was as uncalled for and find a place in your heart and forgive us,” she said during an empowerment meeting in Soy constituency in Uasin Gishu County.

They said forgiveness is paramount and urged youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence.

“I want to call upon youths across the country during this electioneering period not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to cause violence since it can land them into trouble unknowingly,” she added.

They said they shall preach peace before during and after the August general elections.

“As women from Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties we value peace and we will preach peace across the country to ensure we have a peaceful election since when there is war it is women and children who suffer the most,” she said.

“We don’t want the reoccurrence of the 2007 post-election violence which painted Uasin Gishu in bad limelight which rendered many homeless and hundreds of lives lost. We will ensure it does not reoccur,” she said.

She said they don’t want insecurity and tension before and after elections to be realized in the County.

“We do not want the insecurity to be realized again the county. Uasin Gishu county is a cosmopolitan county and utterances and acts of hooliganism can destabilize the long fought peace in the county,” the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Rift Valley chair added.

She asked the people of Uasin Gishu County to live in peace and coexistence.


“As the people of Uasin Gishu, we are welcoming all the aspirants in all the parties from different parts of the country so that they can be able to sell their agendas without being intimidated in any way. We want to ask our children with all humility and respect that they should desist from being used by politicians to cause chaos in the political rallies,” she added.
