Members of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) gathered today in Mombasa to strategize on promoting good governance and enhancing their effectiveness as lawmakers. The meeting, chaired by Hon. Leah Sankaire, emphasized key principles such as teamwork, the power of agreement, and active citizen engagement.

In her address, Hon. Sankaire urged her fellow parliamentarians to use the resources allocated to them judiciously. “Establish a small consortium for the projects you plan to undertake. This approach will minimize wastage and help manage our limited resources effectively,” she advised.

The women lawmakers also discussed the necessity of addressing gaps left by their predecessors and formulating solutions to longstanding issues. They recognized that enhancing their chances of re-election and advancing to senior positions requires a proactive approach to governance.

A significant point of discussion was the importance of regular communication with constituents. The lawmakers committed to transparently sharing updates, including instances of unfulfilled promises, to maintain public trust and accountability.

This meeting highlights KEWOPA’s ongoing commitment to improving governance and empowering women in leadership roles across Kenya.
