World Bank Express Satisfaction on Projects in Eldoret Municipality

The World Bank representatives under the Kenya Urban Support Program on Tuesday in company of officers from The State Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Council of Governors and the Municipality Officials toured the 11 projects funded under Phase 1 KUSP.

The Technical Team Leader and head of delegation Beatrice Eraso Puig, Senior UrbaN Specialist and head of Urban, Resilience and Land, Africa Region, expressed her satisfaction with the identification and implementation of the projects. “I am impressed with the quality of your projects. Your proposal to serve the affordable housing with infrastructure is also commendable.” Said Puig

On his part,Dr. Konyongo Charles, the Director at the State Department for Housing and Urban Development thanked the team that implemented KUSP 1 and urged for compliance by the Municipality so as to acces funds for KUSP 2.

The County Secretary Edwin Bett assured the team of County Governments total support to ensure all conditions are meant for KUSP 2,”Just like we gave support in KUSP 1,I assure you that the County Government will support the Municipality be fully Operational, especially now that we have an establishment ready and as per the requirements under the Urban Area’s and Cities Act 2011″ said Bett.

On her part the CECM Trade Miss Martha Cheruto commended on the partnership,”I want to appreciate the continued support and request for more especially now that Kenya has been termed as one of the Countries hosting AFCON 2027 and Eldoret has been termed as one of the Hosting Cities as some matches will be played at Kipchoge stadium,your support at the 64 stadium will lift our City as a sport tourism hub” said Miss Martha.

The Municipality Chairman Julias Kitur welcomed the team to Eldoret City and requested for more funding for projects for the benefits of the locals. ” Your support has been so helpful to our society as a Municipality and we request that you continue supporting us.” Said Kitur

The Municipality Manager,Tito Koiyet took the team on a presentation of the eleven projects,and proposal for KUSP 2. On his presentation,the Manager requested for more funding for completion of 64 stadium which is at 74% complete.

The world Bank social Specialist Mr Alidu Adams urged the Projects Implementation Team in future to ensure universal access,” You need to factor in a universal data acces as a basis of City planning to accommodate people with different abilities so as to enable that community benefit from the utilisation of those infrastructure.” Said Adams.

Others Present were the team from the Council of Governors,State Department of Housing and Urban Development,World Bank, Nicholas Chepkwony the Chief of Staff, Nathan Korir,CO housing, Geoffrey Tanui,CO Trade,Elphas Kessio,CO Agriculture among Other County and Municipality Officials.
