World Skills 2024 Competitor Lamex Odanga Engages with Key Officials at World Youth Skills Day

In a vibrant celebration of World Youth Skills Day held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Lamex Odanga, a competitor in the upcoming World Skills 2024 event in Lyon, France, had the opportunity to engage in a lively discussion with prominent leaders in the field of labor and skills development.

Lamex Odanga, who will represent Kenya in the Mechanical Engineering Computer-Aided Design (CAD) category, shared insights and aspirations with Dr. Langat, CEO of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), and Mr. Shadrack Mwangolo Mwadime, EBS, Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development in the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.

The conversation underscored the importance of equipping youth with practical skills to compete on the global stage. Dr. Langat praised Odanga for his dedication and hard work, stating, “Lamex’s participation in the World Skills competition is a proud moment for Kenya. It highlights the significance of technical and vocational education in shaping the future of our youth and our nation.”

Mr. Mwadime emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting skills development initiatives, noting, “Our focus is on creating an enabling environment for young talents like Lamex to thrive. We are investing in training and infrastructure to ensure our youth can compete globally and contribute to our nation’s growth.”

Lamex Odanga expressed his gratitude for the support and encouragement from both leaders, saying, “It is an honor to represent Kenya at the World Skills 2024 competition. The guidance and support from TVETA and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection have been instrumental in my journey.”

World Youth Skills Day, celebrated globally, aims to recognize the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The event at KICC showcased various skill development initiatives and highlighted success stories from different sectors.
