orld Vision International, through Anglican Development Services (ADS) North Rift Region, has donated 75 smartphones to Community Health Promoters (CHPs) from various units across the county. This initiative follows an official request by H.E. Governor Wisely Rotich, seeking support for 106 out of the 1,260 CHPs in the region. The national government had previously managed to procure 1,154 smartphones.

The smartphones are intended to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of health data collection by enabling CHPs to key in information electronically into community health information systems. This technological upgrade is expected to improve the overall health services in the region, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

The CHPs play a vital role in addressing health inequalities by bringing essential health services closer to the people. They serve as a crucial link between the community and formal health facilities, ensuring that health issues are promptly and effectively addressed.

The smartphone distribution ceremony was presided over by Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek. In attendance were Mr. Lameck Okello of the Enrich 2 and Reacts In Grow projects, Mr. Peter Nyorsok, program coordinator for ADS North Rift Region, and staff from the Department of Health led by County Executive Committee (CEC) for Health, Michael Kibiwot. Also present were Chief Officers Caroline Magut and Jeremiah Chirchir, along with other staff members.

During the event, Deputy Governor Cheserek highlighted the importance of this initiative in strengthening the region’s healthcare system. “The provision of these smartphones is a significant step towards improving our health data management and ensuring that our CHPs are well-equipped to serve the community effectively,” she said.

Governor Rotich expressed gratitude to World Vision International and ADS for their support, emphasizing the critical role of technology in modern healthcare. “This support will enhance our community health services, ensuring that vital health information is captured accurately and efficiently. It also underscores our commitment to leveraging technology to improve healthcare delivery in our region,” he stated.

The distribution of these smartphones marks a significant milestone in the county’s efforts to enhance healthcare services and address the health disparities faced by rural and underserved communities. With improved data management, the CHPs will be better equipped to provide timely and effective health interventions, ultimately contributing to the overall well-being of the community.
