Youths Urged To Participate In Politics
The United Democratic Alliance party today nominated Dr. William Ruto as the party leader and flagbearer for the upcoming Presidential elections.
David Maina, national chairman of Vijana Na Kazi UDA, led a notable delegation of youth members to endorse William Ruto at the Kasarani Stadium.
Speaking to the press after the UDA National Delegates Congress at Kasarani, David Maina urged the youth to play a more active role in in defending constitutional freedoms, in party events, policy consultations and also vying for party and elective positions.
“The youth have been entirely absent when parties are being formed and when coalitions are being signed. We make up 75% of the population but unless we participate vigorously in politics we will miss out on our share of government” said the Chairman of Vijana na Kazi UDA on the sidelines of the National Delegates Conference.
Insiders in DP William Ruto’s circle are whispered to be very surprised by the rapid growth of the national youth movement Vijana Na Kazi UDA. It has been political common sense on both sides of the political divide that young voters are not participating in this year’s politics.
Maina, however, downplayed this perception. “From our consultations with youth all over the country I can assure you that this generation is very independent-minded, but historically the youth pay more attention to politics close to election day.
I urge IEBC to keep voter registration going to the last moment so every youth can exercise their democratic right to vote.”
He reiterated that the Bottom Up economic policy would deliver jobs to millions of unemployed youths.
“William Ruto’s administration will put jobs first and will earmark adequate funds to create youth employment in digital, creative, manufacturing & processing sectors. We will also make sure Kenya stops borrowing heavily by doubling revenue collection up to 2.8 Trillion shillings.”
Maina appealed to Kenyans to support William Ruto’s vision of a tribeless Kenya, adding that a country that spends all its time, energy and resources to fight tribal wars can never succeed.
