Youths Want the Government to Ensure They Get ‘Talanta Hela Program’
Youths in the film industry urged the government to ensure that the ‘Talanta Hela Program’’ fund reaches the rural areas.
According to Allan Masiza, the writer of The Mole in the System, a TV drama series, when youths are talented but idle they divert their energy into negativity hence bringing them together for participating in filming will make them engage in positivity.
“When a youth is idle and has nothing to do he or she will think negatively and therefore start stealing, engaging in alcoholism, and disturbing people,” said Masiza.
Erastus Mugoya, the director of The Mole in the System has urged the government to set up workshops for filming in rural areas as youths are talented but funds like the Talanta Hela Program’ rarely reach these areas as they only help the talents in big towns like Nairobi.
“Here in the rural areas there are talents but there is no knowledge of things like Talanta Hela Program that will help grow the talents,” said Mugoya.
Mugoya further said that filming is not just about acting but also about creating job opportunities for youths, especially in the local areas which has been a key objective of the government hence they should support the local films by providing funding and not just international and national films.
“The media should also come in and support the local films by airing them on their platforms so that it can reach many people and even investors who can support films like The Mole in The System,” added Mugoya.
