A joint team of the County Government and the National Museums of Kenya is in the process of verifying assets of the Kitale Museums ahead of an official handover of the facility to the devolved government.

The process, midwifed by the Intergovernmental Relations Technical Committee (IGRTC) is scheduled to take utmost three days commencing Tuesday with a culmination of the transfer slated for Thursday.

Among the assets due for transfer are land, buildings, human resource, artefacts among other collections with the county government expected to assume full control of the resource from early next year.

The exercise is in line with a gazzete notice of 2021 that transferred the functions of the National Museums to the devolved governments hence the move seeks to ensure the physical transfer of resources.

Legal teams are also working on the Intergovernmental Partnerships Agreement (IPA) document to ensure a seamless transfer of the assets with the IGRTC offering to help mediate in the event of any arising matters.

Gender, Sports, Culture and Tourism CECM Chanell Kittony who oversaw the process on Tuesday affirmed that the county administration was ready for the take up and pledged to ensure that the facility is revamped.

The IGRTC, led by Ms Linet Mavu and Angeline Hongo (MBS) also paid a courtesy call at the County Headquarters where they were assured of the County Government’s support by the County Secretary, Ms Truphosa Amere.

The County Governor, H.E. George Natembeya has expressed the intent to make Trans Nzoia a Tourism destination by promoting biodiversity and sprucing up the available resources and the transfer of Kitale Museums is a nip in the bud.
