𝐊𝐄𝐖𝐎𝐏𝐀 Official Urges Female Lawmakers to Champion Mentorship For Aspiring Women Leaders
A call has been made for female lawmakers to step into the role of mentors, guiding aspiring women politicians to bolster the presence of female leaders in the future.
Hon. Prof. Phylis Bartoo (Moiben), an executive member of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), stressed the significance of mentoring in nurturing the next generation of female leaders.
“As female legislators, it’s incumbent upon us to help guide and nurture our sisters who have expressed interest in leadership positions. This will be one of the ways we will give back to the community,” articulated Hon. Prof. Phylis Bartoo.
She observed that supporting and mentoring potential leaders will contribute significantly to society, drawing from the performance of the current cadre of female legislators.
“The elected women leaders have generally proved to be effective and equal to the task. We will lose nothing by holding the hands of other potential leaders,” explained the Moiben legislator.
Hon. Bartoo made the remarks during the closing ceremony of a comprehensive two-day mentorship training organized for KEWOPA members from both the National Assembly and the Senate.
The training, facilitated by the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Kenya), covered crucial topics such as Gender Responsive Policy Formulation, Wellness, and Mental Health Sessions on the initial day.
On the last day of the workshop, the facilitators of the training focused on guiding the MPs through navigating the political landscape and how to harness technology to cultivate their individual brands.
The theme of the mentorship training workshop was ‘Promoting Women’s Political Participation and Leadership.
