Health and Sanitation CECM, Carolyne Makali, has advised parents to seek immediate medical assistance from health facilities in the event of excessive bleeding or emergencies during traditional circumcision procedures to prevent fatalities.
Speaking at the Sang’alo Cultural Centre in Kanduyi during the official opening of a training session for traditional circumcisers, Madam Makali emphasized the importance of accessing medical help if complications arise during circumcision.
“We are establishing emergency units in our sub-county hospitals specifically to handle such situations, ensuring timely medical assistance.
Our ministry has a team of doctors and other healthcare professionals ready to manage these cases,” she stated.
In her capacity as the acting Culture CECM, Makali also urged circumcisers to use a separate knife for each candidate to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases.
She encouraged parents to not only uphold cultural practices but also to prioritize their children’s education.
“While undergoing traditional circumcision, it is crucial for children to continue their education. Education is the ultimate equalizer for their future,” she added.
A total of 875 traditional circumcisers from the Bukusu, Tachoni, and Batura communities across Bungoma County are participating in the training.
Also in attendance were Public Administration and Management CECM Eng. Agnes Wachie, Chief Officer David Maling’a, and Culture Director Ali ce Wafula, among other senior officials.
