CS William Kabogo Criticizes Rigathi Gachagua for Misleading Mt. Kenya Region

Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, has lashed out at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of misleading the people of Mt. Kenya into political alienation. Speaking in President William Ruto’s stronghold of Uasin Gishu County, Kabogo sought to reassure the public that the Mt. Kenya region remains firmly aligned with the government, contrary to claims from some political figures that the region had shifted its loyalty.

“The noise that you are hearing in Mt. Kenya directed at the President will soon come to an end. The region has no problem with the government,” Kabogo stated, dismissing the narrative that Mt. Kenya was dissatisfied with the Kenya Kwanza administration. Kabogo's comments were made during his address at the annual Data Privacy Conference 2025 held at Eldoret Sports Club.

Kabogo, who served as Kiambu County's first governor, strongly criticized the sustained criticism from a section of Mt. Kenya's political class, accusing them of trying to isolate the region from the rest of the country. He reiterated his commitment to debunk the notion that the region was opposed to President Ruto, adding that he would soon tour the area to deliver the President's greetings, which he expressed confidence would be well received.

“I will soon make a tour of the region and take the President's greetings, and I am optimistic that it will not be rejected,” Kabogo affirmed.

The Cabinet Secretary’s remarks come as tensions simmer within Mt. Kenya’s political circles, with some leaders voicing their dissatisfaction with the current administration. Kabogo, however, dismissed these concerns, insisting that the region’s future remains closely tied to the national government.

During his speech, Kabogo also touched on the importance of digital transformation and the government's commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure across the country. He expressed concern over the misuse of social media, particularly the disturbing trend of circulating doctored images of public figures, including some in coffins.

Kabogo condemned this practice as harmful and derogatory, calling on young people to use social media responsibly. He assured the public that despite the growing abuse of digital platforms, the government would not resort to shutting them down.

“I call on our youths to be responsible when using the digital space and stop posting derogatory images of public figures in coffins,” Kabogo warned.

Additionally, Kabogo inaugurated a new regional data protection office in Eldoret, which will serve the North Rift region. The office is part of the government's broader efforts to strengthen data protection and promote digital literacy across Kenya.

Kabogo’s comments reinforce the administration’s determination to maintain national unity and ensure that digital innovation continues to drive economic development.
