Directline Insurance Reaffirms Commitment to Policyholders Amid Shareholder Dispute

Directline Insurance Company Limited has reassured its stakeholders that the company remains operational despite ongoing shareholder disputes. Acting Principal Officer Sammy Kanyi confirmed that all covers paid by the company are valid and that it will continue to honor claims related to the covers issued.

Kanyi expressed the company's confidence in Kenya's judicial process, noting that despite challenges faced in 2024, including the shareholder dispute, the company had shown resilience. “The operations of the company have continued uninterrupted. We owe our success to the unwavering support of the insurance fraternity and the Government through the Insurance Regulatory Authority,” Kanyi said.

The company reported a significant financial performance in 2024, having paid Ksh 2.88 billion in claims. In December alone, Ksh 275 million was disbursed in claims, and between January 1-13, 2025, Ksh 62 million in claims were paid. Directline closed the year with a topline figure of Ksh 3.4 billion and expects to publish its full annual audit soon.

Looking ahead, Directline is gearing up to celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025. "This milestone is a testament to the vision of our founders and the continued trust of our stakeholders, especially in the P.S.V. sector, which has been integral to our success," Kanyi added.

Industry stakeholders have also voiced their support for Directline. Kariuki Michael, Chairman of the Mt. Kenya Matatu Owners Association, expressed confidence in the insurer, noting, “Despite a few problems in the last few months, Directline has been paying our claims. We assure our members that all will be well.” Michael also welcomed the government's taskforce aimed at tackling fraudulent claims within the sector.

The Association of Kenya Professional Insurance Agents also reaffirmed its support. "Directline’s commitment to paying pending claims and commissions demonstrates its confidence in its team," said the association's representative. “We believe this is a new beginning for the company, and we are confident that all issues will be addressed moving forward."

As Directline Insurance approaches its 20th year, the company remains dedicated to its mission of providing reliable insurance services and honoring its commitments to policyholders, intermediaries, and the broader public.
