Couples in Eldoret Choose Work Over Valentine

A section of couples in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu County have spoken out about why they are not celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Speaking to Vipasho News in Eldoret town, they said love should be a continuous process and should not be on valentines day only.

“Valentine is a daily thing where you show love to your loved one, today is not that way a special day but just marking Valentine’s day,” a man who identified himself as Rasta said.

The majority said that gifting and loving each other is daily exercise and it is not supposed to be shown on this day alone.

Responsibilities
Many couples admitted that giving the gift is for both men and women noting that its a sign of appreciation from both genders, “Women have this myth of being gifted by their lovers but the truth is, it is for both sides. Everyone has to appreciate each other for love to be complete,” said Mercy Sigei while speaking to the press.

Early preparations
A man who identified himself as Alla, said many of them did not prepare themselves earlier stating lack of sufficient finance being one of them.

“The way the economy you cannot take someone out while your landlord is on your neck you will definitely choose to pay rent,” he said.

Jobs and economy

Some said that due to daily tasks, they have especially on weekdays could not allow them to celebrate. Others prioritized their self-employed and employers’ jobs over valentines.

The economy being unbearable is one of the salient reasons for not celebrating. Valentine’s day is celebrated on February 14th every year to mark the lover’s day. The system is gradually disappearing after theCovid-19 pandemic hit the economies of nations globally.
