The Eldoret National Polytechnic will continue to offer competitive training programs and it has
cut a niche for itself as a college of choice for many youths in the country and beyond.

The Chief Principal Charles Koech speaking during their 18th graduation ceremony said the synergy between the Polytechnic and key sector players in the industry has yielded immense results in shaping our training outcomes.

On the rollout of Competence Based Curriculum and Training (CBET), the Chief principal said it is in compliance with the Ministry requirement.

“All our new admissions are enrolled 100% in CBET programs that involve internal assessment done within the polytechnic and external assessment by TVET CDACC. We equally partner with the industry in rolling out these CBET programs,” said the TENP Chief principal.

He applauded the Kenya School of TVET for CBET delivery training.

“So far about 350 trainers of TENP have been trained. We are on course and am sure our trainers will certainly leverage on the skills acquired in the training to innovatively implement the new curriculum,” he added.

He applauded the institution’s trainees for the exceptional display of creativity in skills competitions and innovative ventures.

“Remarkable among them is the outstanding performance of a trainee who emerged second best in the Mechanical Drawing and CAD software category in the Africa Tech Competition organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with AVIC International Holdings Corporation and China International Association for International Exchange,” he said.

He noted that another trainer won a bronze medal in a cooking competition during the World Skills Competition that was held in September this year in Nairobi.

“Another innovative invention is AgriBot which emerged the best in the just concluded OSCARS Olympiad that was held in Nairobi and brought together 23 TVET institutions from across Africa. This innovation will revolutionize crop farming thereby offering a serious contribution to food security,” he said.

He further noted that TENP is reputable as a sports champion and a worthy competitor in other co-curricular activities.

“ In recognizing the significance of all-round training we have given our trainees immense opportunities to showcase their talent in various co-curricular activities. We have always emerged the best in several competitions,” he said.

Due to TENP’s strategic location in the North Rift region, it has played host to many national events, including the Agribusiness Expo in which farmers from the region benefited a lot in terms of training on land preparation, seed selection and managing post-harvest losses. The event was geared towards attaining food security given that the region continues to be the food basket of the nation.

He said the institution is currently in discussion with the German embassy through GIZ to enter into a partnership in specific training programs.

“In furtherance of this engagement the German Ambassador paid us a courtesy call in the recent past and we look forward to our trainees benefiting hugely in Dual training as envisaged in the CBET curriculum from the partnership,” the Chief principal said.

He applauded the Government through the State Department of ICT for choosing to partner with the institution in setting up Jitume Computer Labs within TENP that are open to our students and the public to access online jobs.

“ The facility has made our youths versatile as they use their ICT skills to earn foreign money from the online jobs,” he said.

The Chief principal noted that as they usher out this year’s cohort of graduates he is confident of their readiness to take their space in nation building.

“They are equipped with cutting-edge skills, relevant knowledge, and appropriate attitudes in their areas of specialization. Our training programs will always be robustly tailored to meet the demands of the job market. We will constantly collaborate with key stakeholders in the industry for whom we produce human capital,” he said.

“Graduands as you leave this polytechnic be our good ambassadors out there. Carry with you our identity that is encased in the knowledge and skills you got from here as you find your space in national development. I wish you the very best in all your undertakings and a bright future ahead of you.

The Chief Guest CS Education Hon. Ezekiel Machagu applauded the institutions administration for a job well done.

“I want to thank the institution led by the Chief principal for bringing the institutions this far, for our graduate’s congratulations on a job well done and I wish you well in your endeavors,” he said.
“The Kenya Kwanza Government is banking on the TVET sector to spur industrialization in Kenya. In preparation for this The Ministry of Education has implemented the Competency-Based Education (CBET) where learners are trained 30% in class and 70% in the industry” he added.
