Trans Nzoia County Expands Support for Turkana Community
In a recent meeting at Levoyage Hotel, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, represented by Stanley Kirui, the Gender, Sports, and Youth CEC, outlined ongoing efforts to integrate and empower the Turkana community within the county.
Despite past limitations on permanent employment opportunities, Natembeya assured that alternative empowerment measures are being explored.
Governor Natembeya’s administration is committed to providing the Turkana community with equitable services. Key initiatives include integrating more youths into the Ukombozi Kazi Mashinani program, aimed at boosting income-generating activities.
Additionally, the Burma estate in Kipsongo, predominantly occupied by Turkana residents, is set to benefit from the Urban Settlement Program, which will upgrade infrastructure with new housing, water, and electricity services.
Kirui also announced the establishment of a new water company, TRANSWASCO, which will create numerous job opportunities. He emphasized that the Turkana community should be actively considered during the recruitment process.
Community members, including Chris Lorot and Stellah Lochodo, voiced their desire for greater involvement in local governance and development, citing the presence of qualified professionals within their ranks.
The meeting, which also featured Governor’s Delivery Unit Director Samuel Ereng, highlighted the county’s commitment to inclusive development and fair representation.
