In a heartfelt plea for assistance, Moses Wetangula, a student with a bright future, has reached out to his namesake, Speaker Moses Wetangula, to help resolve his pressing financial difficulties.

Despite achieving a remarkable B+ in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), Wetangula faces significant barriers to continuing his education due to unpaid school fees.

Wetangula, who has been accepted into Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, is currently unable to join the university due to an outstanding balance of KSh 130,000 owed to Baricho High School. This debt has prevented him from obtaining his original result slip, a requirement for university admission.

Raised by his single mother, Margaret Avakalwa, in a financially strained household, Wetangula’s educational journey has been marked by hardship. His mother, who supports the family by selling maize, struggles to cover even the most basic needs.

Wetangula contributes to the household income by working at a local car wash, earning a modest KSh 100 per day, but this amount falls short of settling the arrears.

A Call for Support

In her appeal, Margaret Avakalwa highlights the family’s dire situation. “We are facing severe financial hardship,” she says. “My son’s dream of pursuing higher education is at risk because we cannot afford to clear the outstanding fees. I am asking for help from anyone who can assist, especially from Speaker Moses Wetangula.”

Abdi Osman Hussein, who employs Wetangula at his car wash, confirms the young man’s dedication and the family’s struggles. “Moses is a hardworking young man who is doing everything he can to support his family. He deserves a chance to continue his education,” Hussein states.

Village elder Walter Ayot Keya and neighbor Stephen Juma have also joined the call for assistance. Keya praises Wetangula’s perseverance and academic achievements, while Juma advocates for government intervention to support students with outstanding fees and facilitate access to their certificates.

An Urgent Appeal to Speaker Moses Wetangula

The most poignant part of the appeal comes from Margaret Avakalwa, who hopes that Speaker Moses Wetangula will extend his support. “I named my son after you because of your remarkable success and the positive impact you’ve made. I believe you can help him achieve his dreams,” she says.

The story of Moses Wetangula underscores the broader issue of financial barriers in education and the critical need for support from both individuals and institutions to help talented students overcome these challenges.
