Acting IG Gilbert Masengeli Sentenced to Six Months in Jail for Contempt of Court
Acting Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has been sentenced to six months in prison by Justice Lawrence Mugambi for contempt of court.
The ruling, delivered on Friday, comes after Masengeli repeatedly failed to attend court summons, missing seven consecutive appearances.
In his decision, Justice Mugambi ordered Masengeli to report to the Commissioner General of Prisons within seven days to begin serving his sentence. If Masengeli does not comply with this directive, the court has instructed the Cabinet Secretary for Interior to enforce the order and ensure his commitment to a prison facility.
The sentencing marks a significant moment, highlighting the judiciary’s stance on the enforcement of legal orders and the accountability of public officials.
