The Parliamentary Committee on Health conducted an inspection tour of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) yesterday, focusing on critical healthcare services and the transition of the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Led by Chair Hon. (Dr.) Robert Pukose, the committee began its visit by reviewing various departments, including Renal Dialysis, Oncology and Radiotherapy services, and several ongoing projects. These projects include the installation of a 1.5 Tesla MRI machine and the newly launched Financial Services Centre, which houses the SHA’s Eldoret Branch.

During the visit, the committee observed one-on-one registration sessions for the public, noting that no patients had been denied service amid the ongoing SHA transition. They praised MTRH for its leadership in this process and encouraged the SHA to expedite public sensitization efforts to ensure a smooth transition.

In a debriefing meeting at the CEO’s Boardroom, key topics discussed included critical medical equipment, Human Resources for Health (HRH), and financial allocations. Dr. Philip Kirwa, CEO of MTRH, expressed gratitude to the committee for their continued support.

The committee members were impressed with the hospital’s quality of services and cleanliness, commending MTRH for its outreach programs aimed at disease prevention and early detection. However, they urged the hospital to expand these outreach efforts to all counties within its jurisdiction.

The visit was warmly received by the MTRH Board and the Hospital Management Team, reinforcing the collaboration between healthcare providers and legislative bodies to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
