The county government of Transnzoia has rolled out an accelerated drive to fully vaccinate children aged 5 years and below within 100 days starting Monday 15.

Saboti sub county chief nurse Millicent Mitei said statistics show that several children in the county have not received full vaccinations which posed high risk if contracting particular diseases.

She disclosed that the drive will have health workers move door to door to ensure that all children who missed out in some vaccinations get the jabs.

Ms Mitei called on parents to cooperate with the health workers service providers to have the children immunized for their strong immunity against diseases.

Ms Mitei said more ephasis wil also be given to young girls aged between 10 and 14 years who will be sensitized in the need to vaccinate against Human Papiloma Virus(PHV).
The chief nurse also said the health department is also targeting the vulnerable children in the society including the street children to ensure that they get the vaccine.

The Saboti Sub-county medical officer Doctor Hilda Mulonga noted that there is a low uptake of measles rubella 2 that is administered to children between the ages of one and a half to two years (18 – 24 months) Ms Mitei disclosed that the vaccine will also be availed.

“According to our data we have realized that many parents don’t take their children for the second dose of Measles rubella 2 vaccine that is why we will be going round to ensure all children get the vaccination fully” said Dr Mulonga.

She added that a child who misses out on Polio vaccine is at a very high risk of bodily disability while those who miss on Rubella 2 vaccine are at a risk of losing eyesight.

She further assured members of the public on the safety of the vaccines while calling on the parents to embrace the vaccination drive.

The stakeholders meeting was also attended by the Saboti Sub county Administrator Sara Kogo and the area wards administrators.
