KORURUMA VTC OPENS DOORS FOR TRAINEES
The County Government of Busia through the Department of Education and Vocational Training has opened Koruruma Vocational Training Centre (VTC) in Teso North Sub County to pave way for students to officially begin classes.
The Director VTC Leonard Opollo said the institution which has 108 students registered for various trades among them hairdressing, fashion and design, carpentry, and plumbing is the 26th in the County.
Addressing students, Opollo said the institution will be headed by Valeria Ajah as the principal, stressing the need for the community to support the VTC to ensure it serves the intended objective.
“We are here to make sure the institution benefits students. I want to thank the area Chief, Ward and Village administrators for their effort in mobilizing students”, he said, adding that institution will also offer short courses from National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) in the next one year.
Opollo further encouraged students to be proud of themselves, adding that those who finished their studies in class 8 can undertake Grade Test, artisan, diploma, degree, Masters and PhD.
He urged those doing mechanics and tailoring to be thorough to maintain customers and generate income.
The function was graced by principals from VTCs across the county who purchased different tools using funds acquired from income generating activities ( IGA) in the institutions.
The area Chief thanked the County Government of Busia for the noble course, emphasizing that institution will help in creation of employment as well as reduce cases of youths engaging in unlawful activities.
He called upon Members of Parliament and Members of the County Assembly to consider enrolled students whenever there are bursary opportunities
