Meet Faith Chepkirui and Sharon Chepkemoi students at Kipkabus Technical Training Institute who have ventured into making flower Vessel Decorations
They ventured into the business in order to get money for their upkeep and pay their fees.
The two said they make the flower vessels using waste products that are readily available.
“Our raw products include waste products which include wine bottles, straps used to tie Mitumba clothes, thread and shoe glues. The materials are readily gotten from dust bins,” said Faith Chepkurui.
“We decided to change our lives using threads to make beautiful flowers in which in return could help us earn a living,” Sharon Chepkemoi said.
They said despite the successes they face challenges which include buying the materials because after selling the flowers they use their sales to pay their school fees.
“ Another challenge is the market of their products, and time to make them,” sometimes we make them at night due to limited time since we are supposed to go to class “, Faith said.
They said they usually take three or more hours for one piece to be completed.
“We sell our products to people in the near center, others place orders. Our prices vary with the size they go at 500, 600, 1000 and 1500,”
They say in the next five years they want to start their own company where they will employ and nurture those who want to venture into the business.
“I want to call upon youths across the country to venture into self-employment that is they should use their talents to earn a living. It’s not a must-do a white-collar job you can employ yourself and earn a living,”thye said.
They urged the government both county and national to help those using their talents to fund us to start our business.
The duo said both came from humble backgrounds and when they met in their first year they decided to look for a way to help their parents pay their school fees because they used to be sent home regularly due to lack of fees, and they came up with an idea of using threads and used bottles to make flowers.
