A JOINT POLICE- KENYA WILDLIFE SERVICE TEAM ARRESTS TWO SUSPECTED POACHERS AND RECOVERS 14 PIECES OF IVORY
To a few, these are just photos of pedestrian criminals arrested by police for a normal crime as they await their day in court. To us and majority of Kenyans who are passionate about the preservation of our national heritage, these are seven elephants of diverse ages killed for ivory, by humans.
A joint team of Busia Police officers and their Kenya Wildlife counterpart have this afternoon arrested 60-year-old Mohamed Abbas and his accomplice, 70-year-old Paul Wafula Njoka and recovered 14 pieces of ivory.
The multi-agency team flagged the duo at Korinda junction following information shared in confidence by a member of the public.
The two were riding a Motorbike Registration Number KMEV 721N with a bundle strapped behind the pillion passenger seat.
Security officers conducted search in the presence of the suspects and recovered the haul. The security team took custody of the ivory and the motorbike and marked them as exhibits.
The two are in custody at Busia Police Station awaiting arraignment to answer to charges.
While we sustain our multi-agency operations against poaching activities, we urge the public to protect wildlife selfishly and shun acts of criminality on our national heritage.
