Government Urged to Form Volleyball Academies
The sports stakeholders have been asked to set up of the volleyball academies in the country to ensure utilisation of the raw talent in the counties.
Led by Eregae Sammy,Captain Rift Valley region prisons who were speaking in Kapseret Sub County during the finals of the tournament organised by the water providers Eldoret Water And Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) theme dubbed “LINDA MAJI” said volleyball academies are essential.
The tournament saw over 10 teams drawn from Kapseret sub county.
“I want to ask the sports stakeholders to set up volleyball academies to ensure that many of our our youths do not rot in the Chang’aa dens and the robbery in the community as it will nurture talents and even aid in keeping them busy,”said Eregae.
He said that there are many raw talents which can be nurtured locally and can prosper.
“Rift Valley region has had very skillful players of volleyball but I would like to urge the companies and other corporates to ensure that new teams are being nurtured as there are many young players who are doing good if only they receive support, “added Eregae.
According to the team captain, the tournament to them was actually the build up matchers in preparation of the national games set to be held at Nyayo stadium on 12th and 13th this month.
He further said their team is currently on form and promised to do their best to ensure that they actually win.
“We are very optimistic that we shall be able to do our best and emerge winners in the upcoming national completion in the country as we are actually adequately prepared for the best,”he added.
The Rift Valley Kenya Prisons volleyball captain said that their loading was somehow down but have corrected and now ready for the competitions.
He said that General Services Unit (GSU) team is the only threat for them but vowed to work better to beat them in all facets to bring home the 6 points.
Erick Onyango, of Kenya Prisons said coaches are needed to give guidance on the development of the sport in the grassroot levels and as the Kenya Prisons they have been having mentorship programmes to the club’s in the grassroots through friendly games.
“We should create many more tournaments to be organised so as to scout for the raw talents in the grounds,”said Onyango.
Kenya Pipeline and Prisons are among the volleyball teams dominating.
