BUSIA, LIVING GOODS TO USE CHVs TO VACCINATE MORE COUNTY RESIDENTS
The County Government of Busia in collaboration with Living Goods (LG) targets to utilize the digitally empowered Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) to vaccinate more residents.
The Director Preventive and Promotive Services Dr Melsa Lutomia said the CHVs will be used to continuously mobilize clients at the household level to undertake registration on the Chanjo platform and submit to the designated health facilities or outreach sites for inoculation.
Speaking at the Hotel Breeze in Busia town during an introductory meeting for the project, attended by a section of members of the County Health Management Team, Lutomia appreciated the support by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through LG to battle Covid-19.
“We appreciate the efforts being made to strengthen the fight against the disease. The demand creation is going to support us in terms of making clients to come to the health facilities and outreach sites for the vaccine,” she noted.
She continued: “The political leaders in this campaign period have a good opportunity as they meet the people in meetings to pass a word to them that they should come and get vaccinated. We know that Covid-19 affected some politicians hence the need to protect ourselves against the effects of the pandemic.”
The LG Government Relations Manager Patrick Adera emphasized that the objective of the project is to scale up the number of persons vaccinated through awareness creation, inoculation status, mapping and breaking access barriers by leveraging digital technology and community health systems strengthening.
He added that: “This is to build up on phase one of the project that focused on empowering digitally enabled community health workers to interrupt Covid-19 transmission and maintain essential health services.”
Others present included the County Health Records and Information Officer James Kuya, the County Health Promotion Officer Nelson Andanje, the County Expanded Programme on Immunization Logistician Juliet Kilima, Deputy Coordinator Community Health Services Mereline Barasa and the Emergency Operation Centre representative Moses Sirigwa.
A similar project is also being conducted in Isiolo County.
