Women urged to go for elective Seats

Kenya Human Rights Commission has urged women to go for elective seats.
speaking to the press in Eldoret town after meeting with Uasin Gishu, the civil societies, human rights defenders, and the religious fraternity, Ann Okutoi the director in charge in charge of research and advocacy said woman have a right to vie for any political seat.
“ I want to call upon women across the country to go for elective seat since everyone has a right to vie for any political and thye shoud come out in large numbers and vie for elective seats since its their right,” Okutoi said.
She said the commission will monitor elections to ensure that its done in a free and fair manner.
“We will be monitoring the campaigns and elections to ensure that they are promoting a cohesive environment that upholds human rights. We will monitor August polls from tallying to transmission hence protecting and promoting the human rights, “Said Okutoi.
She says those found violating the human rights during this campaign and election period will face the full force of the law.
She said that they are looking forward that persons living with disability will be considered and the Braille machines availed in the voting processes.
“We need to have the special booths for the people living with disability, issues around mental health, we too have a special category for the intersex actions which need to be considered,” she said.
