The Media Council of Kenya, with support from UNESCO and the European Union in Kenya, will build the capacity of 200 media workers to provide professional, conflict-sensitive online coverage of the 2022 General Election.

As part of its ongoing work on preparing professional and responsible coverage of the 2022 polls, the Media Council of Kenya, supported by UNESCO’s Social Media for Peace Project, will train the media professionals on conflict-sensitive reporting, data journalism and production of programmes (documentaries/blogs) to sensitise media professionals and other stakeholders on peace building initiatives in the country.

Apart from sensitising media professionals and other stakeholders on peace building initiatives in the country, the conflict- sensitive journalism and data journalism trainings are aimed at building journalists’ awareness about the potentially pivotal role they can play in mediating or exacerbating conflict in Kenya especially within the election period.
