TOLGOS FLAGS OFF 100 MORE ELGEYO STUDENTS HEADING TO EUROPE
Elgeyo Marakwet Governor HE. Alex Tolgos has flagged off the second batch of Students heading to Europe for study mission.
Tolgos presented letters of acceptance to the Students during a farewell party held at the Governor’s square in Iten on Friday attended by parents of the travelling students and county government officials.
The farewell was characterized by colourful Cake- cutting and prayers presided over by Pastor Elias Mutai.
This is the second time Governor Tolgos’ administration is sending students overseas after the First cohort of 25 students left Kenya in December 2020.
The second group of 100 flagged off today are leaving Kenya from tomorrow with 25 of them heading to Helsinki, while others are expected to join Tampere University and another group joining Tredu University.
Governor Tolgos congratulated the second cohort for securing the coveted opportunities to travel overseas.
According to the County Chief, the intention of the program is not only to gain education but also exploring job opportunities in the International market.
Tolgos assured parents who embraced the program that it was a worthwhile investment.
“This investment you have put is a life-time opportunity. It is definitely a game changer in the students’ lives,”said Tolgos.
Out of the second cohort, 16 will be going to Helsinki to undertake a Three and half years Degree Course in Nursing.
25 Students have been listed to undertake Practical Nursing Course (Diploma) taking Two academic years at Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAKK).
Another 50 Students will be heading to Tredu University in the same country to undertake Practical Nursing.
Tredu University is approximately 45 Kilometre from Tampere City.
About regime change, Governor Tolgos assured the public that structures put in place by his government will guarantee continuity of the initiative even after his exit from office in August.
Tolgos encouraged the learners to ensure they learnt Finnish language saying it would help them unlock many doors of opportunity.
Max global Director Cornelius Kiplagat whose agency is instrumental in the Students’ airlifting partnership challenged the students to be good ambassadors of the county in Finland.
Iten Municipality Manager Raymond Omonei who is part of the Coordination team advised the students to maintain high level of discipline.
The occasion was also attended by Nandi County government’s CEC for Education and Technical Training Peris Sugut together with her Chief Officer Scholastica Tuei who represented HE. Governor Stephen Sang.
Ms Sugut praised Elgeyo Marakwet for coming up with a brilliant idea of exploring opportunities for their students overseas.
“Your Excellency Governor Tolgos, we are proud of you because you have been a Trailblazer on matters development in your County” said Sugut.
Program Coordinator Ms Janet Jeruto said she was impressed by the students’ enthusiasm, adding that they were already being awaiting at their respective destinations in Finland.
Kerio Valley Regional Development Authority KVDA Chairman Mark Chesergon, County Secretary Paul Chemuttut, CECs Dr. Joseph Kiyeng, (Livestock) Abraham Barsosio (Environment) Chief Officers Loretta Kottut ( Economic Planning) and Mary Kipchumba (Health) were in attendance.
Also present were Public Service Board Member Ms Pauline Kurgat and Koitalel Samoei University official Isaac Kamar.
