Governor Mandago, Sudi Cleared By IEBC
Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday cleared Governor Jackson Mandago, to vie for the Uasin Gishu Senate seat and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi to vie for Kaperet MP seat.
Mandago, a UDA nominee for the seat in the August 9 poll presented his nomination papers at the IEBC County headquarters at Kenmosa village where he was given a green light to officially begin his campaigns.
Speaking after he was cleared, Mandago said his move to go for the Senate seat was inspired by the need to strengthen devolution, having experienced, first-hand, as a pioneer Governor, its shortcoming in terms of resources still being held on by National Government, especially in health and agriculture sectors.
On the other hand Kapseret MP who did not represent himself in person represented his papere at Kapseret IEBC offices where he was cleared for the same.
Mildred Wachiye returning officer Kapseret constituency said the legislator met the entire required requirement for one to be satisfied as Member of Parliament.
“We have checked all his documents according to the law and we have verified and confirmed that they are correct. We cleared Oscar Kipchumba Sudi and gave him the certificate and that he is now a candidate and can start to campaign,” said the returning officer Kapseret constituency.
The Kapseret Member of parliament however, did not go in person since he has traveled abroad.
“The incumbent did not come here in person but was represented, according to the law he was supposed to write a letter signed by the lawyer that he is outside the country and according to the law can send a representative,” she added.
Wachiye further said that it’s not a must for someone to have academic qualifications for him or her to be cleared as the Member of Parliament.
For the position of Member of Parliament the academic qualification are not required we don’t look at academic qualification, it’s only the governor and the presidency that must have academic qualification as required by the law,” she said.
“The only document that one is supposed to bring is Supposed to take code of conduct to the commissioner of oaths to satisfy and rubber stamp and EACC form which is supposed to be stamped page by page then satisfied by commissioner of oaths. we believe the body has looked at everything and for us is just to clear the candidate,” she added.
