Leaders Call For Peace Ahead Of The August Polls
Leaders from various organizations within Uasin Gishu County have called for peace and accountability from the various aspirants eyeing elective seats within the county come 9th August.
The meeting saw representatives from Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) and the public aimed at ensuring peace before vand after the elections within the county.
“Today we are having a very important function here in Uasin Gishu where we have non state peace actors meeting today to promote peace and cohesion in this county during and after elections. We have many stakeholders from religious leaders, CSOs media people and professionals that we are discussing about peace and we have agreed to bring all aspirants on 15th to sign a peace accord and manifesto for the county.” Said Willy Kenei, chairman KNCCI Uasin Gishu County.
The leaders expressed their wish to meet all aspirants, present the people’s needs besides viewing their agenda for the county.
“From the meeting we have had, we have clearly seen that there is unity among business people, religious leaders and politicians in this county. Come 15th the stakeholders will sign a peace accord to show that this county is not a hotspot as it was branded and here we promote peace love and unity.” Added Supkem chairman Sheikh Mudri Karama.
The leaders expressed their faith in IEBC to handle the coming elections and that the body responsible for the elections IEBC, should sort out any challenges that may arise on or before 9th August.
“We have to state our faith in IEBC to do their work but they should also look at the challenges that they may face including the transmission of results. We also want the register opened and cleaned and the names printed. We have faith that good elections will bring peace and so we pray for the IEBC. ”NCCK Treasurer, Bishop Kimani concluded.
