Buzeki Promises to save Uasin Gishu Farmers from Pinch of High Cost of Farm Inputs if Elected Governor
Bundotich Zedekiah Kiprop (Buzeki), the Uasin Gishu county governor aspirant has decried the inflated prices of farming inputs and the high cost of labour. Buzeki, while drumming up support for his gubernatorial bid in Moiben sub-county lamented the move had resulted in continued reduction of maize production in the country.
The independent candidate who was accompanied by his running mate Reuben Chepses observed that the country is staring at a food crisis if the issue is not treated with the seriousness that it deserves.
“I understand that just yesterday, Tanzania closed its border with Kenya. They don’t want our maize. One kilogramme of maize is now retailing between KSh 180 and KSh 200. What will happen if we run out of maize stocks? We are staring at a looming food crisis,” he said.
Buzeki who pitched tent in Torochmoi and Kaptik centre Karuna/ Meibeki ward told the residents that time had come for maize farmers to borrow a leaf from their tea counterparts in the counties of Kericho, Nyandarua, Kiambu and Nyeri who no longer rely on the national government for subsidies and incentives.
“Tea farmers have for a long time accused the government of being noncommittal. This is one major problem we are coming into office from August 9 to solve once and for all,” Buzeki said.
If elected, he promised to remain focused and steadfast in executing their manifesto so that they deliver to the people what they asked of them when they elected him and his deputy.
“Agriculture is key to a sustainable economic growth and our administration will give a lot of attention to the sector. With our fertile soils, we are determined to ensure that a significant percentage of our land is put under agriculture,” he explained.
Buzeki is expected to intensify his campaigns across the 30 wards in Uasin Gishu in efforts to woo voters to back his bid as the clock ticks towards the August 9 political contest.
