Chepkut in Hot Soup as Authorities Investigate Him Over Campaign Chaos
Ainabkoi Mp William Chepkut is on the spot for using goons to disrupt Kenya Kwanza campaign rally in Kaptagat Ward.
The Mp is accused of paying youths from Tendwo to cause chaos on Monday as Kenya Kwanza Caravan traversed Ainabkoi constituency.
While condemning the ugly turn of events, leaders from the across Uasin Gishu County have called on IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati to take stern action against the sitting MP.
At the same time, Uasin Gishu Security Committe has been asked to take stern action on Hon. Chepkut.
Sources have told Mpasho that the rally was a highly staked event that Chepkut was willing to do everything possible to disrupt it in a bid to show his ground support.
Although the violence witnessed on Mondat initially appeared spontaneous, it is now becoming clear that it was a well choreographed move to paint UDA candidate Samuel Chepkong’a as lacking support.
“What we know so far is that the plan was to create protests similar to what happened in Munyaka in 2017 so as to paint Chepkong’a as intolerant and violent” said a source within who Chepkut campaign team spoke on condition of anonymity.
“There was even more reason for Chepkut political camp to mobilise youth ahead of the Chepkong’as visit on Monday, ahead of the August elections”
It is emerging that each one of them was promised between Sh500 and Sh1,000, the source told Mpasho.
The goons were to prevent Hon. Chepkong’a from addressing the huge crowd that had gathered by booing him and carrying their placards high.
Recent opinion polls show that Chepkut will not be re elected and was looking for means to redeem his dwindling support.
Hon. Samuel Chepkong’a and his team has written a formal complaint to IEBC and UG County Security Committee over the matter.
