Religious leaders from Uasin Gishu County are now calling for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the relevant authorities to ensure that they conduct credible elections.

Speaking to the press Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop Bishop Dominic Kimengich says the election has never been a problem but when there is the smell of interference or rigging is when there is violence.

“Election has never been a problem in Kenya people vote peaceful but after voting when we get the perception that there was no level ground or irregularities that when chaos erupt. I am appealing to the government, civil servants, and all the election actors to ensure that we have a free and fair election and we don’t have interference so that our people will be contented with the process and results of the election.”Bishop Kimengich said.

He says IEBC should ensure through all means that elections are free and fair.

Bishop Kimengich cautioned political leaders against uttering utterances that might divide Kenyans based on their tribal ad political affiliations.

“As Kenyans are heading to the August polls it’s important for leaders and politicians to stop diving Kenyans as we head to the August polls and they should look for votes without dividing Kenyans which might lead to war and will interfere with peace. They should preach peace and bring people together,” Bishop Kimengich said.

He, however, warned President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto against attacking each publicly.
“President Kenyatta and his deputy should utter words that bring peace, if we see them divided is not good for Kenyans, they should speak words that will bring peace, they should not attack each other verbally and if Kenyans see from the top are divided all of us will follow suit,” he said.

The Eldoret Diocese Bishop also urged the government and the relevant authorities concerned with the economy of the country to step up and solve the issue of inflation and the high cost of living in the country.

He noted that the government should reduce and do away with other taxes and subside other sectors that will ensure there is a supply of food in the country.
