Eldoret man tells court he smokes bhang to support Wajackoyah
I might be among the first farmers to grow bhang if my president legalises it
The magistrate took time to explain to the suspect that it was illegal, at the moment, to smoke or possess bhang in Kenya
A 47-year-old man shocked a court sitting in Eldoret after openly admitting to smoking bhang.
The suspect, Mr. Boniface Mutua, while appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Christine Menya, claimed he uses bhang as an energiser, and to show support for his favourite presidential candidate Prof. George Wajackoyah.
Mutua who pleaded guilty to the charges facing him, claimed that ‘weed’ pumps him with courage and energy to campaign for Wajackoyah.
“I might be among the first farmers to grow bhang if my president legalises it,” said Mutua, who openly expressed his support for Prof. Wajackoyah’s manifesto which seeks to legalise bhang.
The court heard that Mutua was arrested in Bahati estate in Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu county, after he was found in possession of three rolls of bhang all valued at Ksh90.
The magistrate took time to explain to the suspect that it was illegal, at the moment, to smoke or possess bhang in Kenya.
“For now bhang is illegal and therefore you are sentenced for the offence,” Menya said to Mutua.
The case will be mentioned on July 27, 2022.
