OPINION : ADVICE TO THE YOUTH AS THE COUNTRY HEADS TO THE AUGUST POLLS
As elections draw close, the youths tend to get swayed by handouts and propaganda. We rarely have a chance to make changes and only come once in 5 solid years. We need to stand to be counted. The politics of propaganda and reckless behavior is gone, the era we are living is one of ideologies and issues because as Saitoti said, it comes a time that the country is bigger than an individual.
A civic duty is not one that you cannot forfeit and pick it when you want. Being a patriot comes second after religion. We as the youths need to be active as the electioneering period comes to a close. This country needs us and we need not fail it.
We ask the youths to go and register so as to have votes and be counted. Now the D-day is here and I wish to ask my fellow youths to vote and depart stations to go and relax and wait for the results which will follow them within hours.
Our country is bigger than all of us and we all need to ensure our activities sail through before and after the polls. Peace is the fabric that holds the society together and ensures prosperity and progress is our portion.
My kind appeal to our politicians is to exercise caution with their mouths as that is a weapon which can burn the country down. Secondly, let the State through security mechanisms exercise caution as they protect civilians to perform their civic duty. Lastly, let no one sleep and fail to vote.
