Uasin Gishu County Governor, Jonathan Bii flagged off the International Day Peace walk caravan.
Speaking to the press, the governor applauded Uasin Gishu County residents for maintaining peace before, during, and after the August 9th polls.

“As leaders, we will not get tired of appreciating Kenyans for the peace that prevailed during the just-ended general elections. We heard so much propaganda about our country experiencing violence once more like what happened in the 2007/2008 general elections but we emerged victorious,” said Uasin Gishu County Governor.

Uasin Gishu County had previously been listed as a violence hotspot in the just concluded general elections.

“This is a clear indication that as a country we are moving to greater levels and will act as a stepping stone to greater achievements as a county,” Bii added.

The Uasin Gishu County boss applauded politicians from all divides for holding peaceful campaigns before,, during, and after the August polls.

“We know that people have great faith in their leaders. All the aspirants who won or did not win played a major role in ensuring peace prevailed. Campaigns were done peacefully and the minor cases we heard in the county were addressed immediately. We saw and heard you preach peace in your campaigns and we believe your active and constant involvement in peace-building assisted greatly. We also continue to appreciate those who accepted defeat peacefully and we tell them they are great leaders,” added Chelilim.

Sam Kona, a commissioner at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) commended the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta, for ensuring a smooth transition of the office of the president stating it was a good and commendable gesture.

“In every race, there must be a winner and a loser. The resilience of the Kenyan people in this year’s elections was surely recognized even by other countries. The people elected the leader they saw best fit to lead them and it must be respected. We witnessed a smooth transition of the office of the president that saw our new president being sworn in last Tuesday. As a nation, we are happy that the differences between the former president and the new president, Dr. William Samoei Ruto were set aside during the entire transition process,” said Kona.

The World International Day of Peace is commemorated every 21st of September devoted to strengthening ideals of peace through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.
