Over 3,000 Members of Keiyo Co-operative Society Want DCI to Investigate Their Chairman Over Embezzlement of Funds
Over 3,000 members of the Keiyo Co-operative Society are demanding the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC and the Directorate Of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrest the former chairman of the society’s committee Titus Korir for alleged embezzlement of funds belonging to the society.
They accused the chairman of the Committee of hatching a plot to demolish one of the Society’s Assets in Eldoret Central Business worth half a Billion Shilling.
This comes after the members voted overwhelmingly for the removal of Mr. Korir and his committee and replace him with Mr. John Chemagut.
“ As members, we have no faith in their leadership since they engaged a private developer to demolish one of our story buildings within the CBD without our information. They went ahead to acquire an 8.4 million loan without the knowledge of the members,” said Abraham Yator a member.
The newly elected Chairman has promised to carry out an audit of the society’s bank accounts and investments while promising to put to a halt any plans that could lead to the demolition of the “Trokadero” one storey building worth KSh500,000,000.
“I want to thank the member for electing me, we will conduct an audit of the Co-operative society’s bank accounts and other assets, the former leaders were involved in fraudulent activities while colluding with certain cooperative officers, and their term of service lapsed last year and hence have been operating illegally “Said Chemagut the new Chairman.
However, in a rejoinder, the embattled chairman Titus Korir dismissed the election of new leaders stating that he was in office legally.
“I want to say without fear of contradiction that no fund has been embezzled and that the matter has been reported at the Kaptarakwa Police station for an investigation into the incitement from a few members,” he said.
He noted that he is still the chairman of the Keiyo co-operative society.
“I am still the chairman and my team is still in office legally, we have had a few members who have been disrupting our meeting purporting to be the new leaders, we have reported them to the relevant authorities and we will continue to dispense our duties as stipulated by law, “said Korir.
The Keiyo co-operative society was founded in 1956 by farmers who previously engaged in the business of selling Milk and Pyrethrum where they bought multi-million assets in Eldoret Town and Burnt Forest area.
