State Department of Vocational and Technical Training PS Eldoret National polytechnic Dr. Margaret Mwakima opened its 11th international conference

The conference brings together researchers, innovators, and technicians as well as policy and strategy markers on matters TVET.

“We are at Eldoret National Polytechnic here to officiate the 11th research international conference on technical and vocational training. This is an international conference that brings researchers, innovator, technological advancements as well as policy and strategy makers.” Said Dr. Margaret Mwakima Principal Secretary of, State Department of Vocational and Technical Training

She says the world is facing different global challenges that need solutions to ensure the continuity of the human race on the planet earth.

These problems require both scientific and technical advancements to curb them hence the need for the conference.
“We are at a dispensation where we are faced with global challenges like climate change, water scarcity, infertility of our soils and we need to provide solutions to ensure that we have food security and we are also able to get to innovation for us to be able to industrialize this nation and get it into the manufacturing economy.” Added Dr. Margaret.
Focus is given to the youths too, who form a large percentage of the total population in the globe and with no employment factoring them into the long-term plans was also on the agenda.
“Within the youths’ unemployment and the bulging youth population, there can never be a better time for us to be able to congregate here as a scientist to be as to come up with innovative ways and also provide adaptations and resilience.” Noted Dr.Mwakima.
One of the thematic areas of interest is innovation and technology for agriculture for the food security of this nation as factors such as global warming and climate change affect the rain patterns in the region.
“As you are aware global warming and climate change affecting the rain patterns have become erratic but also the amounts have also reduced. The drought situation is here with us with most parts of the country becoming drier and drier and the soil nutrients being depleted.” said the PS.
