DAPK-K Leader Wafula Wamunyinyi to Vie For Bungoma Senatorial Seat
Former Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has declared his interest in the Bungoma Senatorial seat.
This comes after Senator Moses Wetangula was elected the National Assembly speaker.
“I want to declare my interest for the Bungoma senatorial seat I think I have the qualities and fit to be the next Bungoma senator and I am ready to take the Count further. I decided to vie after calls from my people across all walks of life,” said Wamunyinyi while speaking to the press.
He will be vying at a DAPK- party.
The MP Kanduyi was defeated in the just concluded elections. by his main rival, Ford Kenya’s John Makali.
Makali trounced Wamunyinyi after garnering 32,099 votes against his 20, 240
“With my experience as a long-serving Member of the National Assembly, I’m able to provide proper legislation and oversight for the prosperity of our beloved county of Bungoma. I call upon residents to give me a chance and I promise not to let you down,” said the DAPK-K party leader.
The seat was declared vacant after the Ford Kenya party leader and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula was elected National Assembly speaker.
Wafula Wamunyinyi is currently the party leader of DAPK which is an affiliate party to Azimio La Umoja which was led by Opposition leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
The by-election will be held on December 8.
The UDA party of President William Ruto has backed former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Wafula Wakoli, Wetang’ula’s long-serving personal assistant, is being supported by Ford Kenya.
Bungoma is perceived to be Moses Wetangula’s strong and anyone vying on another party rather than Ford Kenya cannot be elected.
