Businesses in Nandi Urged to Operate With Litter Bins

The County Government of Nandi will step up efforts to ensure cleanliness in all major towns and trading centers across the County.

The County Public Health Officer Mr Alfred Bichii together with the County Assembly Committee on Health led by the Chairperson who’s also the Kurkung/Surungai Ward MCA Ezra Rotich visited Baraton market in Chemundu/Kapng’etuny Ward on a mission of ensuring that high standards of hygiene of premises are maintained.

The owners of buildings who have left their premises in poor standards of sanitation, including poor drainage systems, unattended septic tanks, non painting of their premises and poor latrine provisions and dilapidated buildings have been urged to rectify the omissions.

The team called on all institutions including businesses to operate with litter bins accessible by their customers.

The County Public Health Officer Mr Alfred Bichii said it was everyone’s duty to clean their surrounding areas including working places, recreational and residential premises to effectively manage waste.

On his part, the Chairperson Committee on Health Hon Rotich said that “Every person or authority in control of or responsible for the maintenance of any place shall at all times ensure that containers or places are provided which will normally be adequate and suitable for discarding litter.”

Baraton market is a host to University of Eastern Africa, Baraton (UEAB) students with a population of over 4000 learners.
