Muslim leaders from Uasin Gishu County started collecting food to help those who have been affected by famine.

Speaking after launching the exercise North Rift Council of Imams and Muslim Preachers of Kenya chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini said residents will be able to donate the little donations they have.

“As Muslims from the North Rift region we have today launched an initiative meant to donate foodstuffs that will help the less fortunate from the hunger-stricken ASAL areas,” said the Northrift CIPK boss.

Bini said they have put in place measures to collect food from farmers and thereafter distribute it to the neighboring Counties faced with hunger.

He appealed to believers in all religions to make contributions so that they can collect food and distribute it to the neighboring counties, while at the same time calling out on those hoarding food stuff waiting for the prices to go up to stop that menace since it’s uncalled for.

“We have requested the religious leaders to educate believers on the importance of tithe contributions which will help in buying food for those dying of hunger. I also call upon those storing their harvests while others are being faced by hunger to stop that since it’s uncalled for and ill-intended,” said Abubakar.

Concerning the struggling Kenyan economy, they pointed out the numerous numbers of government employees in both the National, Senate, and National Assemblies hence spending more on salaries which is a burden to struggling Kenyans.

“There are many government employees both at the county and national level, making the government spend more on salaries. We are calling upon the government to reduce taxes to overburdened Kenyans since as I am talking there are some Kenyans who cannot even afford a meal per day,” he said.
