The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Tuesday launched the County Antimicrobial stewardship inter-agency committee Workplan (CASIC), a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials, improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance and decreases the spread of infections causing multi-resistant organisms.

Speaking during the launch at an Eldoret hotel, Acting Chief Officer for Livestock Development and Fisheries Dr. Philip Biamah said that antimicrobial resistance occurs when bacteria, viruses and parasites develop resistance to the drugs we use to fight them hence becoming difficult or impossible for medicines to treat.

On his part Director, Health-Clinical Services Dr. Ronald Rotich urged the stakeholders to work together in putting up measures that will mitigate antimicrobial resistance further noting that Uasin Gishu is constructing a laboratory at Huruma Sub-County hospital which will help them in mitigating the antimicrobial resistance because they will install quality equipment to enhance service delivery.
