Langas Ward MCA Francis Muya has condemned the skirmishes that involved County Askaris, hawkers, and street urchins in Eldoret town last Thursday.

Speaking to the press after the trade committee interrogated the executive on the same to know what happened in the market, the leader of the Minority in the Uasin Gishu County Assembly said the incident was uncalled for and ill-intended.

This comes after the group stormed Eldomatt supermarket and carted away many goods especially foodstuffs and electronics among others.

“First of all I want to condemn the skirmishes that were witnessed in Eldoret town on Thursday, this was uncalled for and a bad image to the County where our president comes from. We want the hawkers and the county askaris to work together,” said the Uasin Gishu Jubilee party chairman.

Muya said during the incident there was an organized group from both sides who beat people, broke vehicles, and stole from them.

“As the devolution and trade committee, we have called CEC and all those involved to know what happened and know what they are doing to ensure since it’s sad to see the market is closed. We want to know where they have reached with bringing normalcy and order to the market,” he added.

He noted that they will also get views from the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner, and County Commander to ensure that the issue is solved amicably.

“Closing the market for long is not good but if it will bring order and normalcy we support it the process should be fastruck since it will sabotage the process of economic recovery. Governor knows that all businessmen are your children and should treat everyone fairly,” said the Langas Ward MCA.
