Kenyans have been urged to go for HIV testing as the World Marks World HIV/AIDS Day.

Speaking to the press Labour, Social Welfare, Gender and Children chairman and Moi’s Bridge Ward MCA Bishop Patrick Kimeli says knowing your HIV status gives you powerful information to keep you and your partner healthy.

“As I am talking the HIV infections have increased, I am calling upon Kenyans, especially youths to go for HIV testing where you will be able to know your status and start treatment early,” he said.

He further blamed youth for the increased cases of HIV infections in the Country and County at large.

“Sadly, youths have neglected using condoms which have largely led to the increased cased of HIV,” he added.
Bishop Kimeli said they will push for the allocation of funds for sensitization on how to prevent HIV infections.

“We will put some money to train and get condoms which will help in the reduction of HIV infections, people should know that HIV is there and people are dying daily. We urge churches and mosques, teachers and those with positions in the society to also sensitize youths on the same since HIV can infect anyone,” he said.

Labour, Social Welfare, Gender, and Children chairman called on donors not to stop their support to people living with HIV/AIDS.

Naomi Serem cried foul that youths have neglected AIDS and now fear pregnancies.

“Each member of the society should engage girls since they enjoy themselves and don’t see the risk of being infected by HIV, it has reached a point where they fear being pregnant than being infected by HIV. Let’s educate youths and the cases will drop,” said Serem.

David Waweru Waiganjo nominated MCA said that there are also increased cases of sodomy.

“There have been increased cases of sodomy and I urge parents to always take care of their children. Sadly, parents lack time for their children. Let us not be busy for our children, such cases can be solved if parents have time with their children,” said the nominated MCA.

He said during this holiday season parents should ensure that they have time for their children since it will help to know their changing behaviors.

“Let us not only leave our children to teachers, it’s time we take our roles as parents of taking care of our children. Let’s avoid traditional rite of passage which leads to HIV infection since the two parties,” he said.
There long holiday they should take care of their children as they go through a rite of passage and we should talk to them and should stop traditional circumcision since it brings HIV/AIDs

Moses Kipchumba Kebenei Simat Kapseret ward MCA said the cases of HIV infections have increased because both the National and County Governments are relaxed in the awareness of HIV.

|” Years back HIV awareness was all over it was something that was being taught and teachers,
parents and students were discussing it, but now society is trying to hide behind HIV and people are not shouting as they used to before. Religious leaders, opinion leaders political leaders, bishops must come and out shout the way we used to do a few years ago,” said the Simat Kapseret Ward MCA.

He said those infected with HIV should come out and educate Kenyans on the dangers of HIV, how a person can get it, and preventive measures.

“We have to come out and call a spade a spade and if we don’t speak it will affect others. As the County Assembly we will try to put an allocation to make sure that HIV and other diseases are budgeted for through the health department,” he added.
