Governor Rotich Launches the Inagural Iten International Marathon

Elgeyo Marakwet governor Wisley Rotich has officially launched the inaugural Iten International Marathon scheduled for Sunday, 18th December 2022.

The sponsors and race ambassadors led by Joycline Jepkosgei, former World Half Marathon holder and long distance sensational Geoffrey Kamworor who was represented by his spouse Joy Kamworor joined the governor in the official launch of the race.

“It is an opportunity for our athletes who have been training and have not had an opportunity to participate in a marathon to showcase their prowess and win the Sh1 million that is up for grabs both for men and women,” he said.

He noted that there will be cash prizes of Sh750,000 and Sh500,000 for the second & third places and cash prizes for the best 20 in both races.

“My administration will ensure that athletics is developed further in our county.
I will ensure that we post coaches to our schools who will identify talent. Those picked will be taken to camps for training,” he added.

He invited all Kenyans for this auspicious event coming this Sunday.

“I invite every Kenyan to come and run in Elgeyo Marakwet. There is more than running here…it is where champions and made. You could be that champion this weekend!,” he said.
