Lets Address Issues Affecting Our County-Busia Governor
The Busia County Governor Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has called upon all Busia residents and leaders to work together and address more urgent matters that threaten people’s livelihood.
He said he has completed the process of establishing a functional county assembly and county executive committee members (CECM).
Addressing the county during the 59th Jamhuri day celebrations, Dr.Otuoma revealed that life expectancy for the residents stands at 43.8 being the lowest in western region.
“Malaria prevalence is at 39% being the highest while Malnutrition in children leading to stunted mental and physical growth causing damage is at 22%.” He said.
In Busia HIV/AIDs prevalence stands at 5.4% aganist national average of 4.3%, teenage pregnancy is so high an indicator young people are recklessly engaging in sexual activities.
Dr Otuoma said provision of water is critical and people have a right to access clean and safe drinking water, citing high power bill from Kenya Power hindering the service to residents for the last three months.
“I am directing CECM water to critically look into the issue of water alongside CECM Finance and BUWASCO to sort out the issue of water as soon as possible.” He said
The Governor said the ring road around Lake Victoria should be a collaborative effort and should be treated as a National issue.
Talking about food security, he directed the CECM Agriculture to make sure farms are tilled on time and to revamp extension services.
He states that due to climate change which leads to lake back flow, fish ponds need to be revived to cover up on fish deficit in line with blue economy.
Also in attendance include the Speaker, Hon. Eng Fredrick Odilo,Hon Wilberforce Oundoh Mudenyo, County Secretary, Nichodemus Mulaku, CECs and MCAs among other leaders.
