Moiben MP Decries Low Uptake of Husterlr Fund in Her Constituency
Moiben Member of parliament Prof. Phylis Bartoo
has cried foul of little turn out of people applying for Hustler Funds in her constituency.
According to Bartoo, her constituency registered a few subscribers for the loan borrowers, something she says is not a good sign as the hustler fund is supposed to help people start their businesses that will elevate their standards of living thus fighting poverty and low living standards in the region.
“According to the statistics, Uasin Gishu county registered quite a low figure of hustler fund borrowers. We have 261,605 people who have so far applied for the Hustler fund. Narrowing down to Moiben Constituency, the subscription is so low. This tells you that there is laxity amongst ourselves and probably the majority of us here still want to live in a comfort zone,” said Bartoo.
She further urged people to think without being cocooned and work hard to live decent lives.
“When you first apply for hustler fund, your limit could be ksh.500, if you can invest in that amount however little it may seem, you can rise. The first amount is to test your creditworthiness. If you repay, having followed the terms and conditions, your limit can escalate to ksh.50, 000. I advise you, my people, to invest, do not sleep when you know poverty always knocks at your door every morning you wake up. Think of long-term life development, focus on it, and rise” echoed Bartoo.
Data released by the Co-operative and SMEs Cabinet Secretary Simion Chelugui on Thursday, December 8, said Nairobi and Kiambu Counties recorded the highest numbers with 1,072,888 and 624,410 subscribers respectively.
